James Gakuya, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi North, has called out President William Ruto for using State House as a tool to lure voters to rally behind him ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the Embakasi North Member of Parliament, Ruto’s recent invitation of sections of Kenyans to the State House is a misuse of power and a strategy to hold voters.

Gakuya made his remarks on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, during an interview with a local media house, where he accused Ruto of starting early campaigns at State House.

“He can dictate anything because he’s the president. This is total misuse of power, and what we are saying, Mr. President, is you can do it to hold voters because what you are doing is you have started this early campaign today,” Gakuya said.

Gakuya further schooled Ruto for starting early campaigns, yet there are still various pending and unfinished needy programs that have not been fulfilled by his government.

“…you have forgotten that in fact you have various numbers of needy programs that you have not fulfilled,” he added.

Likewise, the legislator took on Ruto, accusing him of using public money and public resources and issuing promises to foster his 2027 presidential campaign in State House.

“But you have seen the project that you can be able to foster now is your campaign in your public home, which is the state house, and using public money and public resources, promising people,” Gakuya added.

Gakuya warns teachers

Gakuya’s remarks come just days after President Ruto hosted teachers for the Waalimu Na Rais Forum at State House, Nairobi, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, where he issued a number of promises to teachers, among them employment of P-1 teachers.

However, Gakuya has warned teachers against the trip to State House while adding that it is a hoodwinking by William Ruto.

“That is hoodwinking, and I would tell you to ask teachers. You know, you have always been in a mountain fighting with the government because of dues, your dues,” Gakuya added.

He further asked teachers to watch their steps while warning them of Ruto, “You must watch your steps. If you get hoodwinked and you get to the box, it’s upon you,” Gakuya warned.

On the other hand, Gakuya noted, “But Kenyans, remember, the president will not even be able to host 30 percent of Kenyans to the end of his tenure. What is he going to do with the rest of the population who have not been able to step to the state house?”
