Gachagua throws shade at ODM CSs in Ruto’s govt

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that President William Ruto was on the brink of losing his seat at the height of the Gen Z protests and that the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga revived his political fortunes.
Speaking during a live interview at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri on Friday, May 16, 2025, with media personality Oga Obinna, Gachagua stated that the impact of Raila had greatly stabilised the Kenya-Kwanza administration.
“Raila Odinga is just an accomplice. The Gen Zs had cornered this man completely, and Raila Odinga is the one who revived him,” Gachagua said.
“Had he allowed the Gen Zs to deal with that matter, we would not be where we are today. So, he is the one who saved him.”
Throws shade at ODM CSs
Gachagua equally threw shade at individuals appointed by Ruto to join the government from Raila’s camp, noting that they lack the capability to meaningfully transform the country.
“Since Raila came, he donated four ‘experts.’ Is Joho an expert? Is Oparanya an expert? My foot, my English fails me on who is an expert,” Gachagua scoffed.

“Since the experts came, have the prices of food gone down? Has healthcare and education improved? Has the stealing stopped? Nothing, it is only that the people eating have become more,” Gachagua added.
Gachagua, who recently unveiled his Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party, insists that meaningful transformation would only be occasioned by a regime change.
Disparages govt projects
“After the elections, when there is a regime change and we put a responsible government in place, that is when there will be change,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua disparaged the signature Kenya Kwanza administration projects, including the Universal Healthcare transformation, Affordable Housing project, and the Hustler Fund.
“Mr President, I found it difficult to work under you because you cheated the people of Kenya, and I helped you cheat them,” Gachagua remarked.

“When I go home and my people ask me about the Hustler Fund and what Ksh500 can do, the thing is a scam; it cannot work,” Gachagua stated.
On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Gachagua resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to form his DCP party the following day.
His resignation was welcomed by the UDA party, which stated that it was inconsequential and long overdue, noting that his name had long been blotted out of the party’s register.
“Through your resignation, the party has now fully offloaded an individual whose recent actions and utterances do not reflect the values and aspirations of our movement,” UDA Secretary-General Omar Hassan remarked in a statement.
