Gachagua takes a swipe at Raila for misusing Western region

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused Raila Odinga of using the people from the western region of the country, especially the Mulembe nation, to his political advantage.
Speaking during the second day of the opposition tour in Bungoma County on Friday, July 4, 2025, Gachagua urged the region to change course while dismissing Raila’s assertion that the leadership for the Mulembe nation would come through the lake.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader has in the past used the remarks in his clarion call to woo the region, especially the populous Luhya region.
“Raila has misused and abused the people of Western. You have been voting for him in every election, and he proceeds to sell your votes.” Gachagua told the gathering at Kimilili.
“Raila has been telling you that Elijah Masinde said that leadership will come through the lake. You have tried that, and it has failed. Let me tell you that your leadership will come from Mt. Kenya,” he added.

Gachagua further challenged the community to rally behind Mt. Kenya and his leadership.

He cited that the region had benefited from aligning with them, referencing when Mwai Kibaki and Kijana Wamalwa formed the government in 2002 as president and vice president, respectively.
“If you look well when Wamalwa and Kibaki came together, you got leadership. After Wamalwa’s death, Kibaki took Moody Awori and made him vice president. I urge you to agree to unite and walk with us in this journey together,” he implored.
Gachagua’s remarks come after Kalonzo Musyoka allayed fears of the 2027 general election being stolen, stressing that the opposition outfit will put elaborate plans in place to ensure the credibility of the polling exercise.
Speaking at the same function, the Wiper party boss stated that stealing of elections will be a thing of the past in the 2027 elections.
“Kenyans are now tired of their votes being stolen. I want to assure the people of Bungoma that the next elections will not be stolen again. I am not Raila, who says every time that the elections have been stolen from him,” he stated.
The Wiper party leaders cited how they will engage the country’s youth to ensure the polls are free and fair.
“We will station our Gen Zs to man every polling station in 50,000 posts, and they will deliver results in real time. We will not need to wait for Chebukati at the Bomas. The time for electoral fraud has ended. We now say that will be a thing of the past,” he added.
