Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has thanked Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah for being an honest and great man.

The former second-in-command, speaking to a local TV station on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, said Omtatah proved himself to be a true leader who could not be shaken by bribes or political pressure.

Gachagua revealed that at the height of his impeachment, he personally reached out to Omtatah through an emissary, appealing for his support.

According to him, the Busia Senator stood firm against corruption and rejected any form of inducement.

“Okiya Omtatah, that guy is a great man. When I sent word to him appealing not to participate in impeaching me, he said I cannot impeach you. The person I had sent, I asked did he had sent you a counteroffer, he said no. He said I will not impeach him,” Gachagua disclosed.

“Had he sent you with a counteroffer, I would have impeached him because I don’t like corruption.”

Accusations against Ruto

The DCP leader went further, accusing President William Ruto of using money to influence parliamentary processes.

Gachagua claimed large sums were disbursed to secure votes against him during the impeachment motion.

“When Ruto introduced money in Parliament for impeachment, he paid a lot of money. There is an MP from the Coast, a great friend of mine, who came and showed me the messages William Ruto had sent him, threatening him with jail if he doesn’t sign for me,” he added.

“He came and said I have children. I am crying as I do this. I have been forced.”

These remarks deepen the former deputy president’s ongoing criticism of the current regime, portraying Ruto as a leader who manipulates institutions through coercion and bribery.

Gachagua’s latest remarks add to the widening rift between him and President Ruto, while also elevating Omtatah’s standing as a leader perceived to embody transparency and independence.
