Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) party leader Rigathi Gachagua has outlined the opposition’s ambitious plan for Kenyans once they manage to unseat President William Ruto.

Speaking on Friday, June 27, 2025, during an interview with a local TV station, the former deputy president dismissed Ruto’s claims that the opposition lacks a plan ahead of the 2027 elections.

He went ahead to list some of the priorities the opposition team will consider, ranging from education to healthcare. However, Gachagua argues that for their plan to be executed effectively, Ruto must first exit office.

This, Gachagua says, is because he is the one who has put the country in its current situation, leading to the unrest being witnessed.

“President Ruto says we have no plan; we have a plan. To send him home is a very important plan. We have the plan to restore dignity to the payslip; we have the plan to restore the healthcare system; we have plans to restore the education system, and we have plans to have a justified taxation system and proper utilisation of collected taxes. We have plans to end abductions and extrajudicial killings, and all those things cannot happen when William Ruto is in office because he is the one who has messed up the country. All his plans are responsible for the shit we are in as a country,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua on one-term call

Further, Gachagua told the head of state that he can do nothing about his “one-term” campaign, since it is a clarion call to send him home.

“I heard him cry about ‘One Term’. There is nothing he can do; that is the clarion call,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua also reiterated his commitment to constitutional processes and firmly denied any involvement in plans to remove the president unlawfully.

“I want to say I have never advocated for the removal of President William Ruto from office through unconstitutional means. I am a believer in the rule of law, and I am a believer in the Constitution. I want Ruto to be removed from office through the ballot,” he declared.
