Gachagua laughs off Ruto’s claims of plans to overthrow him before 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to President William Ruto’s claims that people are fanning anarchy in the country to get him out of office unconstitutionally.
Speaking during a presser on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Gachagua laughed off the assertion, stating that the claims are a narrative created by the president himself.
The former DP says the Kenyans are relishing the opportunity to vote the incumbent out through the ballot, and the president should relax and await his fate.
“We want to advise you that the one-term movement is not going to get you out of power unconstitutionally. Nobody wants to overthrow your government. Nobody wants you out of power through unconstitutional means. We want to remove you from the state house through the ballot in 2027,” he stated.
He additionally claimed that the president is considering using the Terrorist Act to justify the oppression of dissenters.
Own narrative
“This narrative you’re creating is for you to have the opportunity to use the Terrorism Act to profile communities and persecute leaders opposed to you. Relax, we want you to serve your one term and face you on the ballot in August 2027,” he stated.
Gachagua’s remarks come after Ruto, in a daring riot act following the incidents of Saba Saba mayhem, warned that the consequences of their actions will be dire, emphasising that Kenya is a democratic nation where only the people have the power to decide who becomes head of state.
While addressing a roadside rally in Kilimani during the launch of an affordable housing project on July 9, 2025, the president appeared visibly angry as he responded to those he claimed were plotting to unseat him.

“Niliona ati wanasema ati hawataongojea 2027 ati tupige kura, ati wanataka kupanga fujo, ati wapange maandamano, ati wachome mali ya watu, ati walete maafa Kenya, ati ndio wapindue serikali ya Kenya kabla ya 2027. Hii ni Kenya ya demokrasia. Hamwezi tuambia ati mtatumia fujo kupindua serikali. Mtajua hamjui hii ni nchi ya demokrasia na wananchi ndio wataamua,” Ruto said.
He accused certain individuals of planning to use violence and protests to overthrow the government through unconstitutional means, stating that such actions would be met with serious consequences. Ruto dared them to go ahead with their schemes, asserting that such attempts would not succeed in Kenya.
“Let me tell those characters – the ones who are giving us lectures – that they can change this administration using unlawful means and violence before 2027. Let them try,” he added.
