Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, held a meeting with members of the Abagusii community living in Seattle, Washington, as part of his ongoing engagement with the Kenyan diaspora.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Gachagua described the encounter as candid and encouraging, noting the community’s deep concern for the state of the nation and their desire to contribute to positive change.

“This evening, I had the pleasure of meeting and having a candid discussion with my cousins from the Abagusii community in Seattle, Washington,” he said.

The former DP commended the unity and patriotism demonstrated by the Abagusii community, as well as their desire to contribute to a better future for Kenya.

“I am glad that they understand the challenges our country is undergoing and their commitment to supporting positive change. It’s motivating to see our community members come together with concern, hope, and a shared desire to contribute to a better future,” he said.

DCP Seattle office

This comes a day after the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) party leaders inaugurated the party’s North Pacific Chapter Satellite Office in Seattle, Washington, as part of his efforts to engage the Kenyan diaspora and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

In a statement after the official launch on July 14, 2025, Gachagua described the initiative as a significant milestone in enhancing grassroots connections with Kenyans living abroad.

“This new office will strengthen our efforts, foster greater engagement, and bring our initiatives closer to the people of Seattle and the surrounding areas,” he stated.

Accompanied by PLP party leader Martha Karua and his wife, Dorcas Gachagua, Gachagua underscored the need to “listen to the people”, a philosophy captured in the party’s slogan, “Skiza Wakenya”.

Gachagua, who launched DCP on May 15, 2025, has since reiterated his commitment to consolidating opposition support, indicating that a joint presidential candidate will soon be unveiled to challenge President William Ruto’s re-election bid. He identified fellow opposition figures Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Fred Matiang’i (former Interior CS), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), and Martha Karua as key players in ongoing unity discussions.
