Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrived at his party headquarters in Lavington on Thursday, May 15, 2025, ahead of the much-anticipated launch of his new political party.

He was accompanied by his wife and warmly received by close allies, many of whom are expected to take up key roles within the new party.

These loyalists are the same individuals who stood by him following his impeachment.

The launch, scheduled to take place later in the day, has attracted significant attention. From the attire of those present, the party’s theme colours are already evident.

Gachagua wore a striking red suit, while his wife was dressed in a bright lime green dress.

Cleophas Malala appeared in a white shirt with bright lime green stripes, and several other leaders wore clothes in similar shades.

Some even wore bright lime green scarves around their necks.

Among the notable leaders present were Nyandarua Senator Methu and Kajiado South MP Onesmus Ngogoyo.

The building that will serve as the party’s headquarters is also painted in the same colours, clearly signalling that red and bright lime green will be the party’s signature colours.

Gachagua’s resignation from UDA

This development comes just days after Gachagua resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on May 12, 2025.

In his resignation letter to the UDA Secretary-General, he accused the party of failing to deliver on its 2022 campaign promises and abandoning its founding principles.

He cited widespread economic mismanagement, corruption, and neglect of key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, housing, and the digital economy.

Gachagua described UDA as “the most dangerous political moment” for Kenya, calling it “the worst enemy of the people” and unfit to govern.

In response, UDA dismissed his resignation as “null and void,” arguing that his membership had already been revoked in January 2025 following his removal as Deputy Party Leader after his October 2024 impeachment.

Omar’s message to Gachagua

UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar labelled Gachagua “toxic, archaic, and polarising” and accused him of tribalism and incompetence.

Gachagua’s move is widely seen as a strategic attempt to rebrand himself as a champion of the people following the Court of Appeal’s ruling on May 9, 2025, which nullified part of his impeachment. However, his status as deputy president remains unresolved.

This comes at a time when Gachagua is joining hands with other like-minded leaders to send President Ruto home. Other leaders who have joined him include Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa, and Martha Karua. They all share one goal: to ensure that Ruto serves only one term as president.
