Gachagua appeals to Gen Zs to join opposition
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has implored the country’s Gen Zs to join the opposition movement in their quest to oust President William Ruto.
In a passionate appeal during his address to the nation on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party leader urged them to change tact in the fight against the regime and start registering as voters to deal with Ruto when the election comes in 2027.

“I want to appeal to our young people, the Gen Zs, looking at what Ruto has been doing to our children. I want to ask them to consider applying the next onslaught against Ruto by applying for IDs and registering as voters so that they can deal with him at the ballot,” he said.
Gachagua has voiced concern about how the regime has responded to their clamour for change in the country.
“I fear for them; anytime they go to the streets, they are killed like chickens. When we look at desperation from Ruto and the brutal force he is using and the use of state militia to attack them, I want to urge them to join us in opposition and help is to get Ruto out of office in 2027,” he added.
Facing Ruto in 2027
The former Deputy President also responded to Ruto’s claims that people are fanning anarchy in the country to get him out of office unconstitutionally.
He dismissed the claims, stating that Kenyans are relishing the opportunity to vote the incumbent out through the ballot, and the president should relax and await his fate.
“We want to advise you that the one-term movement is not going to get you out of power unconstitutionally. Nobody wants to overthrow your government. Nobody wants you out of power through unconstitutional means. We want to remove you from the state house through the ballot in 2027,” he stated.
He additionally claimed that the president is considering using the Terrorist Act to justify the oppression of dissenters.

“This narrative you’re creating is for you to have the opportunity to use the Terrorism Act to profile communities and persecute leaders opposed to you. Relax, we want you to serve your one term and face you on the ballot in August 2027,” he stated.
