Gachagua allies Thang’wa, Methu visit Oburu Odinga following Raila’s death
Allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, including Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa and Nyandarua Senator John Methu, paid an early morning courtesy visit to the home of Acting ODM Party Leader and fellow senator, Oburu Oginga Odinga.
The senators were received by Oburu Odinga and his second wife, providing a warm and welcoming setting for the meeting, where they brought three sheep as a gesture of respect and solidarity.

In a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Senator Karungo said the visit was aimed at offering comfort and support as Oburu continues to carry the responsibilities left by his late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025.

“Early this morning, my brother, Sen. Methu, and I paid a courtesy call to the Acting ODM Party Leader and our colleague in the Senate, Sen. Oburu Odinga, at his home. We went to pay our respects and offer comfort, especially as he takes on the great responsibility of stepping into the late Raila Odinga’s shoes,” Karungo said.
He added that as young leaders, they had the privilege of learning from Oburu’s wisdom, shared through his stories and real-life experiences, which provided valuable lessons in leadership and mentorship.

On his part, Senator Methu reflected on the visit, noting that they also took the opportunity to congratulate Oburu Odinga on his new role as Acting Party Leader of ODM. He shared on X
“This morning, in the company of Sen. Karungo, we visited our colleague Sen. Dr Oburu Odinga to offer our condolences following the sudden passing on of his brother, Raila Odinga. We also congratulated him on his new role as the Party Leader of ODM and wished him well.”

The gesture was notable despite both senators being fierce critics of the government, while Oburu, as ODM’s acting leader, is currently aligned with the coalition government led by President Ruto, with both sides often exchanging political jabs.
