Four people were on Sunday, February 20 morning killed in a road accident that occurred around the Jamhuri area along Ngong Road after their vehicle lost control and hit a roadside wall.
Lang’ata OCPD Benjamin Mwathi, who confirmed the incident, said that two people were also seriously injured from the accident.
“Four people died on the spot from the accident while the two others were left with serious injuries. The survivors were rushed to Coptic Hospital where one of them has since been discharged while the other one is still receiving treatment,” Benjamin said.
An eyewitness said that the vehicle plunged into a roadside ditch after hitting the wall when the driver lost control.
“The vehicle had six occupants; three men and three women. The police rescued two of the occupants from the vehicle’s boot,” the eyewitness added.
Following the accident, motorists who ply the Ngong Road route accuse Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) of failing to place the correct road signs on the road hence leading to a lot of accidents in the area.
They also accused the road’s contractor of failing to build a flyover around the place to help prevent vehicles from falling off the bridge.
“The contractors should have built a flyover close to the bridge wall so that there wouldn’t be any space for a car or motorcycle to fall. This can help curb the loss of lives,” the motorists said.
The police have, however, called on the drivers to be keen while on the road and avoid overspeeding to prevent such accidents.
“As we launch investigations to know what may have caused the accident, we ask our drivers be keen and follow the road signages in place,” he added.
