The Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa has strongly criticised Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, accusing him of betraying his community by surrendering the Amani National Congress (ANC) party to President William Ruto.

Speaking at a political rally in Malava, Kakamega County, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Wamalwa urged residents not to be deceived into supporting the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

He called on the Luhya community to rally behind its leaders in the quest for the presidency.

“Mtu asije hapa awadanganye. Eti mpee kura kwa UDA. Tukamilishe safari ya Wamalwa. Tupeane president wa Republic of Kenya” (Let no one come here to deceive you. That you should vote for UDA. Let us complete the Wamalwa journey. Let us produce a president of the Republic of Kenya,” Wamalwa declared.

Calls

The former CS reminded the crowd of the community’s political contributions over the years, citing three leaders from the region who have previously held the position of Deputy President.

“Tumetoa naibu rais wa Kenya watatu. Musalia Mudavadi alikuwa number mbili. The first deputy president ni kutoka hapa kwetu. Wa pili alikua Kijana Wamalwa, na wa tatu akawa Moody Awori. Mnataka tena tuwe number mbili? Mko tayari kutoa number moja?” (We have produced three deputy presidents of Kenya. Musalia Mudavadi was the second. The first deputy president came from here, the second was Wamalwa’s son, and the third was Moody Awori. Do you want us to remain number two? Are you ready to produce a number one?” Wamalwa posed.

Wamalwa emphasised that it was time for the region to unite and push for the presidency rather than continuously being sidelined in national leadership.

Accusation against Mudavadi

In his sharpest attack, Wamalwa accused Mudavadi of betraying the community’s political aspirations by aligning too closely with President Ruto.

Musalia Mudavadi amechukua ANC, chama chenyu, ameuza kwa Zakayo” (Musalia Mudavadi has taken ANC, your party, and sold it to Zakayo [Ruto]), Wamalwa said.

According to him, Mudavadi’s decision to merge ANC’s political interests with those of UDA has robbed the community of a powerful bargaining tool in future elections.

Wamalwa insisted that the region must chart a new course if it hopes to secure the presidency in the upcoming polls.
