The Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) party leader, Eugene Wamalwa, has expressed confidence that the United Opposition will defeat President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a live TV interview with a local TV station on Monday night, July 14, 2025, Wamalwa said that Ruto will go down in history as the first president of Kenya to serve only one term.

Wamalwa further clarified that the opposition does not intend to overthrow Ruto’s government.

In addition, he urged Ruto to work hard and fulfil his promises to Kenyans in the remaining years of his term.

“Just like President Ruto made history by being elected president as vice president, he will make history as the first president to serve one term,” Wamalwa said.

“We have no intention of overthrowing your government, but we have said, serve your full term, and we cannot have another term of this kind of leadership, do your best, whatever you promised, the third year is ending. If you could not do it in three years, we doubt if you could do it in two years. Do your best because you only have this term.”

One-term campaign

Senior figures in the opposition, including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa, have publicly aligned on a strategy to block Ruto from securing a second term in 2027.

Their messaging includes slogans like ‘Wantam‘ and ‘Ruto Must Go‘, indicating they aim for his presidency to end in 2027 without reelection.

Ruto on 2027 win

Despite the one-term campaign by the opposition leaders, Ruto has expressed confidence that he will win the 2027 general elections by a landslide against them.

Speaking in Kisumu Town ahead of the launch of the LV Point Affordable Housing precinct within LV Marina on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Ruto stated that the opposition has no plan or agenda for the Kenyan citizens.

“These are people who have no vision, no plan, and no agenda. We will show them dust; they won’t believe,” he stated.

Furthermore, he criticised the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by Rigathi Gachagua, for its party slogans, saying it lacks a vision.

“All they know is slogans: ‘Ruto must go,’ ‘Kasongo,’ ‘Wantam…’ And I want to tell you we are going to move this county forward,” he stated.
