Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday revealed that their dawn raid in Governor Anne Waiguru’s homes and offices in Kirinyaga and Nairobi counties were successful.

According to EACC regional boss Charles Rasungu, investigations are at an advanced stage after detectives got crucial evidence in some of the computers carted away from Kirinyaga County headquarters.

“Yes, we managed to get crucial evidence as per court order issued by Nyeri magistrate. We are currently analyzing it before taking the next step,” Rasungu said.

When the investigations are completed, Rasungu said, the EACC will forward the file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji for directions.

Speaking on the phone on Tuesday, the regional EACC boss urged Kenyans to give detectives time as they work on a watertight case against Governor Waiguru.

Already 25 senior county officials have been summoned and have recorded statements with EACC over the alleged Ksh 22.3 million scam in which the governor is accused of irregularly authorizing payments for travel allowances for non-existent trips.

The EACC is also investigating alleged illegal tenders in which fictitious campanies were paid millions of shillings. About 28 senior county officials have recorded statements on the second investigation.

When MCAs impeached the governor two months ago, they claimed that Waiguru presided over a corrupt administration and accused her of awarding tenders illegally to close associates.

But Governor Waiguru last week brushed off the EACC raid in her homes as a distraction from the real corruption.
