Drama as MPs Kibagendi, Nyakundi engage in near-fist fight confrontation

Tensions flared at the funeral of Mama Salome Nyaboke, stepmother to former Governor James Omariba Ongwae, in Kisii County on Friday, September 12, 2025, as MPs Anthony Kibagendi and Japhet Nyakundi came close to a physical confrontation.
The drama unfolded when Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi rose to address mourners from the podium, stating that the community had been misled in electing a president he described as dishonest.
“We were hoodwinked as a community and as a nation to elect a President who is a liar, a President,” Kibagendi remarked before promoting Kitutu Chache North MP Nyakundi to react.
As the two MPs engage in a heated physical confrontation, elsewhere, the ODM secretary general and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, during the launch of the Githunguri Avocado Cooperative Society in Kiambu County, accused Ruto of making deceptive promises to voters during the last election.
At that moment, an energetic Nyakundi attempted to snatch the microphone from Kibagendi, pushing him dangerously close to the edge of the stadium stage.
A video shared by a local TV station showed Kibagendi swiftly regaining his balance and holding onto the microphone, narrowly avoiding a fall, as the burial ceremony descended into chaos.
Guests seated near the podium were brushed aside as people scrambled for safety, with security personnel rushing in to separate the two MPs and restore order.
Shouts and panic filled the venue as mourners fled to avoid the escalating tension.

The funeral, held in Sensi Ward, Kitutu Chache North Constituency, was attended by prominent leaders, including MPs Silvanus Osoro and Dorice Donya, and Senators Richard Onyonka and Okongo Omogeni.
