Facebook goes down as users report major outage

Facebook users across Kenya have reported experiencing problems accessing the platform through desktop browsers on Sunday, July 19, 2026, with thousands unable to log into their accounts as the disruption continued.
While the mobile app remained accessible, many computer users, particularly those on Windows devices, received messages saying their accounts were temporarily unavailable because of a site issue and were advised to try again later.
Others were told their accounts could not be found, prompting widespread complaints online. The disruption quickly sparked discussions on other social media platforms, where users compared their experiences while trying to determine whether the problem was limited to individual accounts or part of a wider technical fault.
Browser users encounter error messages
For many affected users, Facebook displayed a notice explaining that access to their accounts had been temporarily interrupted because of a site issue. The message indicated that the problem was expected to be resolved shortly and advised users to try again later.
Others said they received notices saying their accounts were not found, leading some to believe their profiles were deactivated or deleted. Similar complaints came from users in other locations, which suggests the problem was with the platform and not individual accounts.

However, even with the desktop issues, many people were still able to access Facebook through the mobile app, which allowed them to continue scrolling through posts, sharing updates and talking to people while the browser version was still down.
No official explanation from Meta
By the time users began reporting the disruption, Meta had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the desktop access problem or providing a timeline for when normal service would return.
The latest incident follows several disruptions to Meta platforms in recent months, highlighting how temporary outages may affect communication, business activities and access to online communities which millions of users depend on.
As users waited for Facebook’s browser service to stabilise, many turned to alternative social media platforms to check whether others were experiencing the same issue. The growing number of similar reports suggested the disruption was not isolated, although the full extent of the outage remained unclear at the time of publication.
