Diaspora PS rallies Kenyans in Qatar to champion Kenya’s global image

Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, has called on Kenyans living abroad to take an active role in promoting the country’s image and advancing its development agenda on the global stage.
In a statement released by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs on Friday, May 2, 2025, it was revealed that PS Njogu made the remarks during a fireside chat held on Thursday evening in Doha, Qatar.
She addressed a gathering of Kenyan professionals, community leaders, and industry pioneers, emphasising the civic and patriotic duty of the diaspora to safeguard Kenya’s reputation and counter negative publicity.
“Kenyans living abroad have a powerful and crucial role in shaping and promoting Kenya’s narrative on the global stage,” she said.
“It is your civic and patriotic duty to safeguard our country’s reputation and help counter negative publicity.”
She highlighted the critical role of the diaspora in driving Kenya’s socio-economic progress through knowledge and skills transfer, noting that international expertise gained abroad can significantly support national development goals.

On the environment, the PS rallied the Kenyan community in Qatar, estimated at over 70,000, to support Kenya’s ambitious plan to grow 15 billion trees by the year 2032. She encouraged the community to adopt a forest as a collective contribution to increasing the country’s tree and forest cover.
PS Njogu also promoted government investment initiatives such as DhowCSD, which allows Kenyans abroad to buy government securities. She encouraged the diaspora to explore opportunities in key sectors, including health, manufacturing, ICT, sports, and agriculture.
“I encourage you to take advantage of government initiatives like DhowCSD, which allows you to invest in government securities,” PS Njogu said.
“There are also great opportunities in sectors such as health, tourism, ICT, manufacturing, sports, and agriculture that can help you grow your investment portfolios.”
In addition, she briefed attendees on the government’s ongoing development programmes under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), stressing the need for the diaspora to stay informed and engaged with what’s happening back home.
The PS was accompanied by Ambassador Mohamed Nur Adan, Kenya’s envoy to Qatar.
