Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives in Kericho on Monday arrested three suspected car thieves at Kipchimchim trading centre.

The three; Erick Kipkurui Kogo, Philemon Kiprotich Ng’eno and Joseph Achila Ondieki were nabbed while trying to sell a Toyota Probox they allegedly stole at Litein Town on January 16.

“Aware that the vehicle had been circulated to all police units across the county and beyond, the suspects kept it hidden for a week as they sourced for fake number plates and a potential buyer,” DCI said in a statement.

The three are alleged to have changed the number plate of the vehicle from KCQ 318K to KCU 994X.

“Unbeknownst to them, a joint team of Kericho and Londiani detectives were on their trail, netting them at the location and recovering the motor vehicle,” DCI added.

The suspects are due to be arraigned in court today.

Police said more investigations are ongoing to establish any links to a possible larger ring involved in the crime.
