DCI closes comment section after Kenyans troll Customer Service Week post
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, October 6, 2025, shared a message celebrating Customer Service Week, highlighting its commitment to professionalism and public service.
“At the DCI, our commitment is to deliver services that are both effective and efficient, all while upholding our core values of professionalism, alliances and partnerships, the rule of law, and teamwork,” the message read.

DCI’s Customer Service Week post triggers reactions
The post, which featured a smiling customer care representative holding a phone, was meant to appreciate the agency’s engagement with the public.
However, the cheerful message quickly attracted a flood of sarcastic comments and memes after being shared on X.
The DCI had captioned the image with the words Happy Customer Service Week, but within minutes, Kenyans online turned it into a viral discussion.
One after another, users questioned the agency’s choice to participate in the celebration, with many calling the message “tone-deaf.”

Some wondered who exactly the DCI’s “customers” were, while others joked that the post should have come from a private company instead.
One user suggested that “maybe the customers are those who get invited to DCI offices without an appointment.”
Another commented that the agency should first focus on improving its “public relations” before sending out such messages.
Others shared memes and edited posters referencing popular online jokes, flooding the thread with laughter and mockery before the comments section was eventually turned off.

The trolling intensified across multiple social media platforms, forcing DCI to disable the comment section to stop the growing backlash.

The global event, marked every first week of October, recognises organisations that demonstrate quality service and strong relationships with the public.
Yet, for many Kenyans, the DCI’s attempt at celebrating it seemed to miss the mark.
