Chirchir hails revival of stalled road projects after unlocking funds

Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir, has lauded the resumption of road construction projects across the country following the release of funds through the securitisation of the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF).
In a statement issued on the night of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, after a meeting with road contractors and regional directors from key agencies—including the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), and Kenya Roads Board (KRB)—Chirchir praised the stakeholders for getting back to work on stalled projects.
“This evening, I held a productive meeting with road contractors and regional directors representing various road agencies (@KeNHAKenya, @KURAroads, @KeRRA_Ke & @KRB_Kenya), where I expressed my gratitude for their resumption of work on road construction projects that had been stalled due to pending payments,” the statement read in part.
“The securitisation of a portion of the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) has been instrumental in unlocking numerous stalled projects nationwide, breathing new life into our infrastructure development ambitions. This strategic financial manoeuvre has provided the necessary resources to address the pending payments and reinvigorate the construction activities.”
Improving road network
The CS emphasised that reviving these projects is a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to expand and improve Kenya’s road network.
He noted that better infrastructure will enhance the movement of goods and people, reduce transportation costs, and ultimately stimulate economic growth.
Timely completion
Chirchir reassured Kenyans of the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the projects and called for continued collaboration between government agencies and contractors to maintain high standards and efficiency.
“The resumption of these road construction projects signifies a major milestone in our ongoing and unwavering commitment to enhancing and expanding Kenya’s road network infrastructure. This renewed emphasis on infrastructure development holds immense potential for transforming transportation networks across the country, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people, and boosting economic activity,” Chirchir wrote on X.
