The recently installed Francis Atwoli Road signpost in Kileleshwa, which had been vandalized days after it was erected, has been put back in place.

This has been confirmed by Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary General Francis Atwoli whose name was etched on the city road as a way of honouring him.

He says the Nairobi County Government has, this time round, installed CCTV surveillance to monitor the road sign in a bid to prevent its destruction.

“The Nairobi County Government has reinstalled the sign. If you think you came from the moon go try to remove it again. Also, a CCTV has been installed for the security of the area,” Atwoli wrote on social media.

Until, Thursday, May 27, the road was known as Digdig.

While renaming it, the acting Nairobi Deputy Governor Anne Kananu noted that she had decided to honour Atwoli for a job well done in his career.

“You have played a major role in society. Such leaders should be honoured. Supporting the community is a big role. Let us keep the same spirit,” she said.

Atwoli had condemned the act of vandalizing the signpost saying, “vandalization is impunity and primitiveness. In a country that believes in the Rule of Law, there are procedures and processes to be followed when unsatisfied. I am against anarchy. However, the police will look into that.”
