Caleb Amisi claims Kaluma’s political survival depends on Raila

Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has hit out at Homa Bay Town MP George Peter Kaluma, accusing him and a section of other Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislators of clinging to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for political survival.
Speaking to K24 Digital in an exclusive interview aired on Friday, September 12, 2025, Amisi said that after the formation of the broad-based government, some MPs within ODM, including Kaluma, are hailing President William Ruto and his administration as a way of proving loyalty to Raila.
According to the Saboti lawmaker, Kaluma and a section of others in ODM have no independent political standing outside the party leader’s influence.
“Members of Parliament like Peter Kaluma want to lynch people because of William Ruto, and those members think that by doing so, they are making Baba happy, they think that by doing so, they are growing in ODM, “Amisi claimed.
“These are people who cannot survive outside ODM; they cannot win anything; they have to talk about something to show that they are loyal to Baba.”
Amisi further claimed that without Raila’s support, leaders like Kaluma would struggle to stay relevant, insisting they lack concrete development agendas for their constituents.
“But these are people who are basically going home; they have been exposed that without Baba, they have no idea or agenda for their people,” he added.

Amisi to ODM MPs
This comes days after the vocal lawmaker called on ODM legislators to strengthen their own political bases instead of relying on party leader Raila Odinga.
It is worth noting that the ODM leader has warned against early and persistent political campaigns, saying that they hurt the country’s development.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his X account on February 17, 2025, Amisi emphasised that it is time for new leadership to emerge within the party.
“ODM MPs should now go and seek votes for themselves and give Baba some rest,” Amisi stated.
He underscored the importance of having fresh leadership within the party, asserting that those who prove themselves capable will naturally earn Raila’s endorsement.
“Other potential leaders must emerge and showcase [themselves]. If you prove to be good, you will receive the endorsement of Raila bila jasho,” he stated.

Amisi further warned against overburdening Raila with political responsibilities, arguing that some leaders may attempt to exploit his influence for personal gain.
“We must never misuse the enigma anymore to satisfy the selfish political adventure of lazy and/or retrogressive leaders!” he said.
Additionally, the legislator took a swipe at opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, calling for them to step up their political engagement.
“Wamunyoro should continue his opposition politics, and Kalonzo and his group should increase press conferences from twice a week to twice a day—morning and evening,” he added.
Amisi further urged the youths, particularly Gen Z, to play an active role in shaping Kenya’s political future.
“Gen Z must never slumber; it is your time to contribute to the change that the country desires,” Amisi wrote.
