Contrary to many people’s expectations, the broad-based government has the highest support in the North-Eastern region, the TIFA survey reveals.

However, 35 per cent of Kenyans in the region are opposed to the broad-based government, while 6 per cent have no opinion.

This second release is based on a TIFA national survey conducted between 23 August and 3 September.

2,023 randomly selected Kenyan adults (aged 18 and above) across all 47 counties were interviewed at their residences.

The broad-based support is followed by the Central Rift Valley region with 45 per cent. This is President William Ruto’s turf.

“Across the country, support for the BBG is highest in Northern Kenya (61%), followed by the President’s home zone of Central Rift (45%) and lowest in the Mt Kenya and Lower Eastern zones (11% and 17%, respectively),” the survey reads.

Most importantly, the broad-based government has the highest opposition in Mt Kenya at 83 per cent; only 11 per cent of Kenyans support the broad-based government in Mt Kenya, while 6 per cent have no opinion about it.

Tifa says the opposition in the larger Mt Kenya region was fuelled by the impeachment of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Despite Ruto’s extending an olive branch to Nyanza and the coast regions, a bigger section of residents oppose the pact between the two leaders.

In Nyanza, only 34 per cent of Kenyans support the UDA-ODM arrangement, while 58 per cent oppose it and 8 per cent have no opinion.

Surprisingly, the Coast region – one of Azimio’s strongholds – has the highest number of Kenyans who oppose broad-based government at 75 per cent; only 17 per cent of Kenyans support the Ruto-Raila pact, while 8 per cent of people have no opinion.

In Nairobi, 64 per cent of Nairobians oppose the broad-based government, and it is supported by 26 per cent of Kenyans, while 11 per cent of Nairobians have no opinion about the pact.

The Western region has 63 per cent of people who oppose the broad-based government, while 31 per cent support the pact, and 6 per cent have no opinion.
