Mama Sarah Obama, the grandmother of former United States President Barack Obama has died aged 99.

Her son, Said Obama, said the family’s matriarch died at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital in Kisumu County early Monday, March 29.

The family said that Mama Sarah had been receiving treatment at the Kisumu hospital for a month and a half.

Burial plans are currently underway in line with Islamic tradition for the ceremony that will be held at her K’Ogelo village home in Siaya County.
