List of areas to be affected by Tuesday’s blackout

Kenya Power has announced a planned blackout scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, 2024, affecting several regions across five counties.

The utility company cited routine network maintenance as the reason for the temporary blackout.

In Nairobi County, the areas set to be affected include part of Kitsuru. The blackout is expected to last from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The specific areas affected will be part of Ngecha Road, Serenity Spa, Mitini Estate, Lake View Estate, Ngecha Villa Estate, and adjacent customers.

In Bungoma County, the West Kenya Sugar Factory in Naitiri will experience the outage along with Nabingenge Market, Nabingenge Polytechnic, Nabingenge Borehole and Primary School, Lungai Village, and nearby areas. The power will be off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Kakamega County will also be impacted, particularly in Musaga and Samisi Market. The blackout will affect Musaga, Samisi Market, Kalenda, Shirugu Safaricom, Malekha Dispensary, Shipala, Lukala, and adjacent customers from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Nyeri County will see an earlier start to the power outage, beginning at 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The areas impacted include Ihithe, Hubuini, Ihithe Market, Ihithe Secondary and Primary Schools, Mukarara Market, Gahuthi Water Pump, Kiamutiga Village, Gatherere Village, Hohoini PCEA, Hubuini Market, Kina TBC, Kahuro PCEA, and surrounding areas.

In Taita Taveta County, the regions of Msumarini, Kurawa, and Tarasaa will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Key locations in this blackout include Tana Salt, Kensalt, Kurawa Salt, Ngao Hospital, Ngao Water, Tarasaa Market, Odha, Safaricom Boosters in Chara and Kibusu, Msumarini, Mwenda Pole, part of Marereni, and adjacent customers.
