Anne Kananu Mwenda has been sworn-in as the Nairobi Deputy Governor shortly after city MCAs vetted and approved her nomination.

Immediately after she was sworn-in, Kananu vowed to work closely with Maj-Gen. Mohamed Badi, the Director-General of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.

“I will work closely with the leadership of the Nairobi County Assembly members,” said Kananu.

The new deputy governor was quickly vetted, approved and sworn-in on Friday in a record time of under five hours after Justice Anthony Mrima of High Court cleared her path to the top of City Hall by dismissing petitions against her nomination.

Justice Anthony Mrima dismissed two applications filed by activist Okiya Omtatah and Habil Kongo, paving way for Nairobi ward reps to vet Kananu for deputy governor.

The activists had asked the court to declare Kananu ineligible to be vetted, appointed, or sworn into office as the Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County and, subsequently, as the governor.
