Authorities are investigating all the candidates except for one at a Nyamira examination centre over alleged irregular access to an alleged Chemistry exam leakage.

The private centre is at the Nyamira Secondary School and had eight candidates registered to sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

Security officers, the Ministry of Education and Kenya National Examination Council officials are investigating the incident to establish whether the leakage was genuine.

One of the KCSE candidates is said to have received the Chemistry questions on WhatsApp, written down answers on an exercise book, and shared the content with other students before the exam started at 7.27 am.

After the incident was reported, several people were arrested and taken to Nyamira and Manga police stations.

Among those arrested were the principal of Kiabiraa Secondary Schoo, the exam supervisor, invigilators and Chemistry teachers at the same school.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, April 1, Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident and warned exam cheats that the long arm of the law will catch up with them.

“Candidates should report anyone who tries to confuse them to the authorities since they may face legal action and have their exam results cancelled,” said Mariba.
