Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has expressed gratitude for the support that was shown by the public and fellow MCAs during the final sendoff of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve.

Munuve was laid to rest on Friday, May 9, 2025, at his rural home in Nzeluni, Mwingi West, in Kitui County.

In a statement shared via his official social media accounts on Sunday, May 11, 2025, Alai said that over 90 MCAs from the Nairobi City County, where Munuve served until his death, had attended the burial.

”On behalf of myself and the entire Nairobi City County Assembly family, I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who stood with us during the difficult period following the passing of Hon. Joel Munuve Kimanzi, until his final send-off yesterday in Nzeluni, Mwingi,” Alai’s statement read in part.

”To the over 90 Nairobi City County MCAs, led by the Rt Hon. Speaker Ken Ngondi, your presence, solidarity, and compassion were deeply felt and immensely appreciated. Your unwavering support was a true reflection of the unity that Joel championed throughout his life.”

Other county assemblies

In his statement, Alai also thanked the executive staff and their colleagues from the county assemblies of Nakuru, Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui for offering their support during Munuve’s final send-off.

”I also thank the executive staff and our colleagues from the county assemblies of Nakuru, Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui, whose presence was a great source of comfort. Your camaraderie reminded us that public service is not only about duty but about standing with one another during our darkest hours. To the many friends and friends of friends who came through, some without ever having met Joel, your selflessness and empathy will never be forgotten. Thank you for walking with us, giving, praying, and mourning with the Kimanzi family,” he stated.

Kariobangi North residents

Moreover, Alai expressed gratitude to the people of Kariobangi North, whom Munuve served, for the love and respect they showed the family of their late MCA.

According to Alai, the people had travelled all the way from Kariobangi in Nairobi to Mwingi and helped in preparing meals, among other things.

”To the great people of Kariobangi North, thank you for the love and respect you showed the family of your MCA. From preparing meals to travelling in your hundreds to Mwingi to bid farewell to your leader, your kindness was overwhelming and deeply moving. Your loyalty to Hon. Munuve’s legacy is truly admirable.

”Special thanks go to the First 11 team of Bangu and Team Dollar. Your unmatched commitment and brotherhood gave us strength when we needed it most. To the Sergeants-at-Arms and the Nairobi City County Assembly staff, led by the Clerk, thank you for giving the family a shoulder to lean on and ensuring that every logistical detail was handled with dignity and care,” Alai stated.

Munuve’s death

A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home revealed that Munuve died from a pulmonary embolism caused by a severe blockage of oxygen flow.

Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor, who led the forensic team, said the late MCA suffered a fatal blood clot that obstructed the pulmonary artery, responsible for transporting blood from the heart to the lungs.

“When we examined the body, the darkened lips and nails were clear indicators that the MCA was not receiving enough oxygen at the time of death,” Oduor explained.

The clot, which was traced to the left popliteal vein behind the knee, had migrated to the lungs and caused a critical obstruction. Multiple clots were found in the region, confirming the origin of the embolism.

Munuve passed away at AAR hospital in Kiambu on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
