Alai brags about being among top mathematicians, dismisses Babu Owino’s classes

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has dismissed the decision of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to offer free online mathematics classes, claiming he ranks among Kenya’s best mathematicians.

Alai, on Monday, October 27, 2025, said his mathematical knowledge is far above the level of the lessons Babu plans to teach online. He said he has always excelled in the subject and described himself as one of the best in the country.

“I am on the list of the best Kenyan mathematicians. I scored A- (Minus) in a village secondary school called Lela. If I were at Alliance, I would have taught the teacher,” he said.

He went on to explain his academic background, noting that his skills in mathematics go beyond what is taught in secondary school. “I went on to pursue Computer Science at the USIU, and now I am pursuing a Master’s in Data Analytics,” he stated.

The MCA added that teaching mathematics online is not part of his official duties as a legislator.

“But I am an elected legislator. My work is to legislate, represent and oversight. My work is NOT to stream live basic maths lessons,” Alai said.

Says Babu’s maths level is below his

Alai claimed that his understanding of mathematics is far beyond that of many professionals, including those who specialise in the field. “My level of Mathematics is beyond the level of Patel and even his 20 associates. I am beyond Secondary School Mathematics. I live and eat maths,” he said.

He went on to mock Kenyans who praised Babu Owino for teaching mathematics online, saying such gestures show misplaced priorities.

“Cheering an MP for live-streaming Maths lessons is as * as electing Sakaja because he has dimples. It’s one of the most ignorant moves stagnating Nairobi,” he remarked.

Babu Owino, on the other hand, announced that he will resume his online revision sessions to help students prepare for the upcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The MP said he will conduct a mathematics revision class live on his Facebook page.

The Embakasi East MP started the initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist learners studying from home. Babu has maintained that his main goal is to help candidates succeed in their exams, regardless of his political position.
