2022 General Election: Unctad boss Mukhisa Kituyi enters the fray

Former Kimilili MP, Dr Mukhisa Kituyi, who is the secretary-general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad), has declared that he will be running for the country’s top seat in the 2022 General Election.

Dr Kituyi, 65, said he is the most suitable candidate to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta whose two five-year terms are coming to an end.

The former lawmaker now joins a long list of leaders who are eyeing the presidency, prominent among them Deputy President William Ruto, Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi and Dr Alfred Mutua.

Dr Kituyi served a Cabinet minister in former President Mwai Kibaki’s regime.

His Unctad second and final term ends mid 2020, a time when he will officially launch his presidential campaigns.

“I am ready to serve the country owing to my experience on international experience ,” he said while addressing the media in Bungoma County.

Kituyi said top of his agenda will be implementing policies to improve the country’s economy.

He was first appointed to the UN in 2013 and re-appointed for a second term in 2017.

Dr Kituyi studied political science and International relations at the University of Nairobi and at Makerere University in Uganda.

The politician has already started crisscrossing the country with the aim of building a formidable team that will propel him to presidency.
