Twenty people have sustained serious injuries after the vehicles they were traveling in collided head-on on the Malindi- Mombasa highway on Monday, April 12.

The accident involved two matatus and occurred at the same spot where another crash killed 15 people five days ago.

Malindi Sub County Police Commander John Kemboi, who confirmed the accident, said that one of the vehicles was overtaking when it collided head-on with an oncoming matatu at Kizingo at about 6.30 am.

Kemboi said that one of the vehicles was heading to Mombasa while the other one was bound for Malindi.

He attributed the accident to speeding and overloading.

The medical officer in charge at Malindi Sub-County Hospital, Joab Gayo, said the injured passengers are responding well to treatment.

In last week’s accident, fifteen people died while 14 others were seriously injured in a grisly road accident.
