The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has published an updated list of licensed medical and dental practitioners across the country.

In a statement on July 2, 2024, the institution shared a comprehensive roster showcasing the accredited professionals who have met the rigorous standards set by the council.

According to the institution, patients and healthcare seekers can now easily verify the credentials of their medical and dental providers, ensuring that they receive treatment from qualified and certified experts.

“KMPDC has published a list of all licensed medical, dental practitioners, oral health officers and health facilities in the country. This list has been shared with the Social Health Authority (SHA) for consideration of empanelment,” read part of their statement.

To reinforce transparency, the institution published the list to warn crooks in the sector and those who failed to comply with the tabled act, letting them know they would be dealt with legally through imprisonment or heavy fines.

“Section 22 (1) of the CAP 253 states that a person practising as a medical or dental practitioner without being duly licensed commits an offence and shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding five million shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to both,” KMPDC cited.

KMPDC warning

Moreover, the council issued a warning to health professionals who might be running institutions without licenses.

“CAP 253 also states that a person who uses a premise as a health institution whose premises is not licensed as a health institution commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding ten million shillings or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to both,” KMPDC stated.

According to the council, the list had been shared with the Social Health Authority (SHA) for empanelment. The agency further advised the public to be on the lookout for health facilities that complied with set regulations and seek care only from such facilities.

“Members of the public are advised to seek health services from practitioners and health facilities that are duly registered and licensed by KMPDC,” the statement added.
