United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential candidate William Ruto and his Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition counterpart Raila Odinga on Wednesday, August 3 led Kenyans in congratulating 100M race champion Ferdinand Omanyala.

Omanyala clocked 10.02 seconds to dislodge Akani Simbine (10.07) of South Africa who settled for silver with Sri Lankan Yupun Abeykoon claiming bronze.

“Kenya’s gem and Africa’s fastest man @Ferdiomanyala gets gold at the Commonwealth Games, clocking 10.02 seconds. What a man! We are proud of you,” Ruto twitted on Wednesday evening.

On his part, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga said Omanyala had made Kenyans proud after securing the first gold medal for the country.

“Africa’s fastest man, a son of our soil, @Ferdiomanyala, you have made our entire nation proud. Your victory exemplifies the results of focus, courage, consistency, and sacrifice. Congratulations!” Raila twitter.

Gideon Moi wrote: “Such a monumental triumph as displayed by Ferdinand Omanyala affirms that grit, consistency, and determination are compulsory ingredients to breaking the mortal barrier. Congratulations son of the soil for bagging a Gold medal for Kenya at the #CommonwealthGames2022.”

Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua said: “Congratulations Ferdinand Omanyala for winning the Men’s 100m final and becoming the first Kenyan to ever win Gold in the Commonwealth Games since 1962. What a moment for Kenya! All the very best champion.”
