President William Ruto has joined several other leaders in condemning Iran’s attacks on Israel.

In a statement on Sunday, April 14, 2024, the Head of State expressed concern over Iran’s decision to launch missiles at Israel.

He condemned Iran’s decision and described the attack as a disturbing development that is likely to aggravate the already delicate situation in the Middle East.

“Kenya is deeply concerned by Iran’s attack on the State of Israel. This disturbing development only serves to aggravate an already delicate situation in the Middle East, the president said.

Ruto also asserted that the attack posed a threat to international peace and security insisting that all peace-loving countries should condemn the act.

The president subsequently asked Israel to refrain from retaliating.

“The attack represents a real and present threat to international peace and security, contravenes the Charter of the United Nations and should be condemned by all peace-loving countries,” Ruto added.

“In responding to this act of aggression, Kenya urges Israel to show utmost restraint taking into account the urgent need for all parties to walk away from the brink beyond which recovery will be enormously difficult.”

Iran attacks Israel

Earlier, dozens of Iranian drones and missiles were launched against Israel from Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

Speaking on the attack, Israel’s Chief military spokesman, Daniel Hagari, noted that the majority of the missiles out of the 300 missiles; 120 ballistic missiles, 170 drones, and more than 30 cruise missiles – were intercepted before hitting the target through assistance from the United States forces among others.

The attack dubbed “True Promise” was in retaliation to an Israeli air raid on Tehran’s consulate in Damascus.
