06:04 PM

At least two members of the Presidential escort team sustained injuries following an accident around the Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

It is said that one of the vehicles – a black Lexus 570 – lost control and overturned while navigating a sharp corner along the route.

The victims have since been rushed to a Naivasha-based hospital for medical assistance.

It is reported that Elite General Service Unit (GSU) officers and presidential security guards were present to maintain the situation and eyewitnesses were barred from taking photos.

Ruto was not a part of the motorcade as he had flown to and from Naivasha.

The motorcade was heading to Nairobi from Naivasha where President William Ruto was flagging off of the WRC Safari Rally scheduled for Thursday, June 22, to Sunday, June 25.

Ruto said the event attracts more than 100,000 visitors, creating job opportunities worth Ksh24.7 billion.

Besides employment creation, the event will boost the tourism and hospitality industry.

“This will position Kenya as an iconic sporting nation, rallying powerhouse and tourism destination.”
