Police in Ndhiwa have destroyed 3,860 litres of illicit brew popularly known as Kangara during a crackdown at Kakula village in Kanyamwa Kologi.

The operation comes after the police led by Police Commander Enos Nyawade of Kobodo Division got a tip-off from members of the public.

Nyawade and his team stormed the area, found the brewing den hidden in a plantation, and got rid of the illicit brew contained in the barrels.

“We destroyed the brews by pouring them down. W also confiscated the containers used for brewing them,” the police boss stated.

He added that they could not apprehend the suspects since they fled the scene moments before they (police) arrived.

“It seems they were informed before the raid. But we will not relent in fighting illicit brews,” he added.

While warning residents against conducting illegal businesses, Nyawade asserted that they destroyed the brews to discourage preparation and consumption in the area.

The police boss further stated that they had launched a crackdown on individuals engaging in illegal businesses pledging to arrest them if they fail to stop.

“We’re asking residents to continue working closely with security officers to enable us to have a society and people with good morals,” he added.
