Mombasa: Police officer arrested over attempted robbery

A police officer attached to Kware polices Station in Embakasi was on Friday, July 1 2022 arrested in Mombasa for attempted robbery.

The rogue police officer together with two accomplices were arrested after trying to rob a member of the public on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Constable Hellen Wanjiru Wamweu was arrested alongside Marube Harrison Biko and Fredrick Gateri after they allegedly tried to rob a member of the public along Mama Ngina Street, Mombasa.

The three escaped using a silver Mercedes vehicle after the incident but they were pursued and arrested days later by detectives.

Police say suspects changed vehicle registration number

At the time of arrest, they had changed the number plate of the vehicle from KDE 711Q to KCR 363 R. Police recovered handcuffs and a staff ID belonging to constable Hellen Wanjiru.

NPS officers from Mombasa county pursued them, and they managed to escape using a Mercedes Benz KDE 711Q, silver in colour, and on 30/07/2022 at around 2202hrs, the police officers, managed to arrest them. Upon thorough search, a pair of handcuffs, and a certificate of appointment belonging to Hellen Wanjiu Wamweu, was recovered. Also noted, was that the registration number of the vehicle has been changed to KCB 363R, instead of KDE 711Q,” police said in a report.
