Pastor Ezekiel Odero will remain in custody until Thursday, May 4, 2023, after Shanzu court extended his police detention.

The preacher who was arrested on April 27 over reported deaths at his New Life Prayer Centre and Church located in Kilifi now awaits the mention of an application he filed at the High Court.

In the application, he sought to have a magistrate court stopped from delivering a ruling on whether he should be detained for 30 days or not. In the application, Ezekiel wants the ruling to order his immediate release.

Ezekiel denied the allegations against him saying that his church is not associated with Pastor Paul Mackenzie.

“I would wish to strongly disassociate myself from one Mr Paul Mackenzie as we do not have any close family or friendly ties,” his affidavit reads in part.

Pastor Ezekiel on morgue, cemetery

While denying owning a morgue and a cemetery, Pastor Ezekiel Odero claims his arrest is politically motivated by persons with ill motives.

”New Life Prayer Centre and Church does not have a graveyard or a cemetery. And that the only graveyard that is outside the church’s expansive compound belongs to the community that sold us the land to us,” he says.

He further dismissed reports that he acquired his TV channel from Mackenzie saying his efforts to negotiate for a sale were frustrated.

“That was a result of the desire to have a TV station whose frequency was national. I negotiated new offers with Pang leading to the birth of World Evalengism Tv and consequently abandoning the oral agreement between myself and Mackenzie,” pastor Ezekiel added.

Ezekiel noted that his ministry began in 2010 in Mtwapa.

He later registered his church as New Life Prayer Centre and Church in the year 2012 and in March 2022, the church shifted to Mavueni –Kilifi.
