The government has announced a countrywide recruitment drive for volunteer service men and women in the National Youth Service (NYS).

In a public notice on Wednesday, January 24, NYS said the exercise will take place in all sub-counties from 5th to 9th, February 2024.

NYS further announced that orphans who meet all the requirements will be given special preference during the recruitment, subject to production of sufficient documentary proof such as parents’ death certificates or burial permits.

Persons with disability have also been encouraged to avail themselves at the recruitment centres provided they can withstand the NYS rigorous training.

To be considered for the position, one must be a Kenyan citizen and resident of the respective sub-county of recruitment. They must be aged between 18 to 24 years with a valid national identity card.

The prospective candidate must have attained a mean grade of D plain and above in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) examination.

Interested candidates will be required to present copies of their ID, academic certificates and good conduct during the recruitment.

Additionally, the candidates must be ready to undergo medical check-ups during and after the recruitment exercise.

They must be prepared to undergo rigorous physical training as well as give voluntary service to the nation in any part of Kenya.

“The successful candidates will report for the NYS paramilitary Course at NYS College, Gigil and NYSTT1 Naivasha on dates and times specified in their respective calling letters to be issued,” NYS said.

NYS further warned candidates against engaging in any form of corruption during the recruitment exercise.

“NYS does not condone corruption in any form. Canvassing and giving monetary or other considerations for the purpose of admission is an offence which can lead to automatic disqualification and/or prosecution,” NYS added.

“Instances of this nature should be reported promptly to the Director General on telephone number 020-2400129.”
