Nyandarua County Commissioner warns preachers promoting false doctrines
Nyandarua County Commissioner Mohammed Bare has addressed concerns over churches promoting false doctrines.
Speaking at Ol-Joro Orok Stadium on Saturday, October 21, 2023, Bare underscored that the issue is becoming a menace affecting both the learned and the illiterate.
While vowing to close churches promoting false doctrines, Bare explained that authorities were forced to close down a church after it was found to be promoting unwanted doctrines.
“Unafikiri ni kitu ina affect watu amabao hawakusoma , a fully registered Engineer recognised by the Engineer board anasema hataki hospitali. Hii mambo tutashugulikia, kuna kanisa moja tumefunga tayari, inaitwa church of God, huyu God ambaye anakwambia usikunywe panadol ukiumwa na kichwa yuko kwa bibilia gani.
“Tumefunga hio kanisa, waende wakaombe kwengine, tutapambana na hawa bora tu tumejua mahali wako na tutajua mahali wako,” he said.
“You might think the problem at hand is only affecting the unlearned but even a well-known Engineer recognised by the Engineers board is a member of the church. We will deal with this matter. So far we have shut down a church identified as Church of God.
“We have closed the church, so long as we know where they are we will deal with such issues,”
According to the county commissioner, the revelation followed after a female member of the church mentioned was arrested by police and forcefully taken to a hospital for medical attention after she suffered injuries in an accident.
The woman had refused to seek medical attention stating that she would get healed through prayers.
Bare’s sentiments were echoed by the Chair of the Nyandarua Interfaith Council, Bishop Josam Kariuki who raised concern over the number of self-proclaimed religious leaders not registered by the government.
“Imekuja katika our knowledge that kuna watu ambao wanasema wako na makanisa, ni kanisa ambazo hazijasajiliwa na serikali na wanakataza watu kuenda hospitali,” he said.
This loosely translates to:
“It has come to our attention that there are self-proclaimed religious leaders who own churches yet the churches have not been registered by the government. These self-proclaimed clergymen are preventing believers at their churches from seeking medical assistance at hospitals whenever they need it,”
