NTSA extends operating hours to facilitate number plate collection

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has extended operating hours to facilitate the issuance of the new generation number plates.

In a statement released on Friday, September 29, 2023, NTSA said henceforth all its banking halls and offices will operate between 7.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

The director general further noted that for the next two weeks, the offices will remain open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“NTSA offices will remain open to the public on Saturday, September 30, 2023, and Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. to enable number plate collection,” part of the statement read.

The safety authority also informed motor vehicle owners who have received SMS notifications on the collection of reflective number plates to visit the centres they identified during the application process.

The adjustments follow a recent directive by Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen asking the authority to clear the backlog in printing of Driving Licences, logbooks and digital number plates within two weeks.

“To quickly resolve this issue, I will personally supervise the processing, printing and delivery of Driving Licences, logbooks and digital number plates, starting today, to ensure Kenyans get better services and value for money,” Murkomen said noting he would personally oversee the reforms.

His directive came after he ambushed the NTSA Inspection and Printing Centre along Likoni Road and the Headquarters in Upper Hill in a move that spurred backlash from netizens.

In his defence, Murkomen noted that despite not being an approach he wanted to take, he had to take matters into his own hands to fasten processes at the institution.

“Everything will be sorted in the next two weeks. I have been patient with the institution but I had to press the reset button. I had to do it. I hope the move will restore sanity. It’s not my wish to micromanage but rebooting the system is my job,” he stated
