Nigerian national apprehended in Mombasa

A Nigerian national has been apprehended in Mombasa after authorities found him in possession of 200 grams of cocaine worth Ksh600,000 in street value.

In a statement on Thursday, May 9, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the arrest of the suspect, identified as Victor Chinenye Ikonne, was made by the Anti-Narcotic Unit (ANU) detectives during an intelligence-led operation.

DCI said the operation led the police to raid his rental house at White House Apartments in the Utange-Kisauni area.

During the search of the premises, law enforcement officers uncovered the illicit substance concealed in a polythene bag inside a drawer in Ikonne’s bedroom.

“The Anti-Narcotic Unit (ANU) detectives based in Mombasa have arrested a Nigerian national found with 200g of cocaine approximated at Sh600,000 in street value. The arrest of the suspect identified as Victor Chinenye Ikonne followed an intelligence-led operation where police raided his rental house located at White House Apartments in the Utange-Kisauni area. Search conducted in the house saw the seizure of the white powdery crack discreetly wrapped in a polythene bag inside a drawer in his bedroom,” the DCI statement read in part.

It’s Cocaine

The law enforcement officers said tests conducted on the substance confirmed it to be cocaine.

Additionally, authorities found assorted SIM cards from various telecommunication companies including Airtel, Safaricom, Telecom, and MTN.

The suspect, along with the seized evidence, was taken to the Port police station for further processing before his arraignment in court.

“Presumptive tests ran confirmed that the concealed powder was indeed cocaine, which was stashed alongside suspected repackaging materials. Also found were assorted SIM cards belonging to Airtel, Safaricom, Telecom and MTN. The suspect has been escorted to the Port Police Station for processing ahead of his arraignment.”
