Police in Nakuru have launched investigations into an incident where an officer manning the Naivasha Sub-County tallying centre attempted to kill himself.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital the officer identified as Corporal George Morara was in the company of his colleagues as they were waiting to be transported to the tallying centre.
Morara however left his colleagues through the exit of the adminstration office leaving his colleagues at the office.
After a short while, his colleagues at the office heard a gunshot from the room Morara had headed to prompting them to rush to the scene.
Upon arriving at the scene, they were shocked to find Morara lying in a pool of blood having shot himself on the chin with the bullet exiting through the upper part of his chin.
“Corporal George Morara assembled at the report office, left his colleagues and opened the exit door to the station administration offices and after a short while, they heard a gunshot sound. They rushed to open the door only to find CPL George Morara lying on the ground having shot himself through the chin with the bullet exiting the upper part of the nostril using Sceska,” the police report seen by K24 Digital read in part.
Morara who is currently in a stable condition was rushed to Naivasha Sub-County referral hospital and admitted to the emergency ward.
The gun was recovered at the scene with a magazine of fourteen rounds, one empty 9 mm cartridge was also recovered at the scene.
Investigations are on to establish the reason behind Morara’s attempted murder.
In 2021, the National Police Service (NPS) launched a program to help officers dealing with situations through counselling.
This is after several cases of officers ending their lives were reported in the country.
