A family in Kisauni, Mombasa county is crying for justice following the death of their 8-year-old minor who is alleged to have been defiled, strangled to death and her body dumped in a borehole.

Grace Kithure, the mother of the deceased, said that despite the suspect having reported himself at Concordia police post, police are yet to launch investigations into the gruesome murder and bring to book the suspect who is known to the family.

Kithure now claims that following the discovery and retrieval of the body from a borehole within the area, the suspect allegedly went to the police post to clear his name after neighbours accused him of having been seen last with Melissa.

“My daughter had gone missing for six days and after her body was removed from the well, the suspect in the matter rushed to a nearby police post claiming that murder charges were being levelled against him, police officers at the post with the help of a village elder, asked him to leave and go home since there was no complainant he was never investigated in relation to the claims he purported to be suspected of, Kithure said.

Postmortem results performed on the body of the minor at the Coast General hospital by doctor Fatima Kauthur indicated that the minor had been defiled prior to her death and later strangled.

“As a result of examination l have formed the opinion that the cause of death was mechanical strangulation”, the postmortem report read in part.

The report further indicates that there was hymenal perfection, with tears in her bladder and pelvis and that there was bleeding from her vagina.

The doctor further revealed that Melissa’s brain had oedema due to strangulation.

She now claims that efforts to have the suspect interrogated in relation to her daughter’s death have borne no fruits since the investigating officer informed her that they were waiting for the file to be handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Investigations Officers (DCI)to launch investigations.

The family claims that the suspect lured Melissa to his house while she was playing a few metres from her house.

She was reported missing for five days before her body was discovered in a shallow borehole within the neighbourhood.

The matter was reported at Concordia police post, in OB number 15/02/2022.

Melissa will be buried next week in Meru county.

On his part Kisauni county police Commander, Juma Fondo said that the file had been handed over to the DCI for investigations.

“Am aware of the matter at first we were treating it as a drowning incidence however, a postmortem has indicated that the minor was strangled to death after being defiled,” he said.
