A middle-aged woman alongside her husband have pleaded guilty to charges of stealing one bale of wheat flour.

The duo Saumu Ali and Evans Odhiambo who appeared before Mombasa senior principal magistrate Vincent Adet pleaded guilty to the charges and informed the court that they allegedly stole the wheat flour to fend for their kids who had gone without food for several days.

“It’s true we stole the Unga since we had nothing to offer to our children we ask the court for leniency and swear that l will not steal again”, Ali pleaded as he broke down in tears before the court.

On his part, Odhiambo in his mitigation told the court that, he was a scrap metal dealer and he had been rendered jobless following president Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to close down his scrap metal business and he was forced to steal only food to feed his children.

The charges read the duo on April 13, 2022, at Shimanzi area in Mvita sub-county within Mombasa county stole one bail of wheat flour valued at Kshs 1980 the property of grain industries.
