Victor Koech of the CCM party went against the UDA wave and got elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chepalungu constituency in Bomet county.

Koech was announced the winner after garnering 45,966 votes while Paul Bii of UDA came second with 15,829 votes.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party led by the Deputy President Dr William Ruto is perceived to be the dominant political outfit in South Rift but Koech defied all odds to win.

On July 24 during Kenya Kwanza mega rally held in Kapkatet stadium, Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua appealed to electorates in the South Rift to only vote for UDA candidates only.

“Those who are vying on independent should never be voted in because they are like vehicles without number plates, so please vote in six-piece,” Gachagua said.

Separately, four MCA aspirants who vied as Independent Candidates managed to floor their counterparts in UDA to win in Bomet county.

Josphat Kurgat of Singorwet ward, Ann Mutai of Silibwet township ward, Peter Langat of Merigi ward and Benard Kimutai Rotich of Chebunyo ward, who contested on independent tickets, all secured victories.
