Dennis Karani, the man linked to the brutal killing of a man at Mirema Drive in Roysambu, Nairobi, has been freed.

The court freed Karani on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, for lack of evidence.

The prosecution told the court that there was no evidence linking the suspect to the murder of Mugoh Mutova a man accused of running a criminal enterprise targeting revellers in the city.

Karani surrendered to police on May 23, 2022, after he was declared a wanted man by the police following the broad daylight shooting of Mutova.

“The armed and dangerous man is suspected to be in possession of a firearm that was leading to Monday’s daylight murder of Samuel Mugoh Muvota, who has left behind seven grieving widows and many children,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.

“Forensic Cyber detectives picked Gachoki’s last signal deep inside Burnt Forest, hours after the murder.”

Speaking to the press after turning himself in at DCI headquarters, Karani said he had met Mutova only twice, maintaining that he was not involved in the shooting incident.

The police were allowed to hold the suspect for 14 days pending completion of investigations into the incident.

The deceased is alleged to have employed several women notorious for drugging revellers at popular city entertainment joints before wiping their bank accounts clean.
