Four individuals have been rescued from a structure being demolished in the Mathare North area of Area 1.
The Kenya Red Cross said on Tuesday, May 14, three rescued individuals were transported to a nearby health facility for medical attention while one person with minor injuries was treated at the scene.
The humanitarian authority said efforts to locate any others who might still be trapped are ongoing.
“Four people have been rescued after being trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building that was under demolition in Area 1, Mathare North, thanks to a multi-agency rescue team,” the Kenya Red Cross said.

Uthiru collapsed building
In a separate incident on May 7, Four persons were reported missing after a five-storey building collapsed in Uthiru, Nairobi County.
According to Nairobi Disaster Management Chief Officer Bramwell Simiyu, the four included a nanny, two children from one household, and a 10-year-old girl from another residence.
“A five-story building has collapsed in Nairobi’s Mountain View Ward, Westlands Sub County, along Naivasha Road, near the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). Nairobi City County emergency response team was swiftly deployed to the scene and continued to assist in evacuating residents to safety. As of 10:00 pm, all the families except four persons have been accounted for,” Simiyu stated.
“The four missing persons include a nanny and two children from one household, as well as a 10-year-old girl from another residence. The girl’s father arrived at the scene and informed the responders that the girl was home alone.”
In an update the following day, all occupants were safely located and attended to.
Confirming the update, the Kenya Red Cross said their team attended to ten occupants rescued earlier at the scene while one female was taken to the hospital.
“One female, rescued at the onset of the incident, was taken to the hospital by well-wishers. Ten others were treated at the scene by the Red Cross Action team. Currently, all tenants have been accounted for,” Kenya Red Cross confirmed.
