Law enforcement officers have apprehended two individuals in possession of 12 slaughtered donkeys.

In a statement on Sunday, January 21, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led raid at the homestead of Wambua Nzioka within Katothya Village, located in Kanyonyoo Location within Yatta.

The police said they impounded a motor vehicle and arrested the suspects, Paul Ngige and Ahmed Chege, during the operation.

“One motor vehicle was also impounded during the raid. The suspects are in Police custody awaiting processing and arraignment,” NPS said.

NPS expressed gratitude towards members of the public and National Government Administration Officers for their unwavering support, which led to the success of the raid.

Donkey meat

This comes a month after authorities in Makueni County apprehended 10 individuals suspected of transporting donkey meat to Nairobi.

Law enforcement officials reported that the suspects were using two vehicles to transport the meat to sell it in the Shauri Moyo estate of the city.

“On December 30, 2023, National Police Service Officers from Kwa Kathoka Police Post and Makueni Police Station within Makueni County intercepted two motor vehicles, registration numbers KDB 991U Toyota Fielder and KCK 434M Toyota Wish, loaded with suspected donkey meat.

“Arrested are ten suspects, namely: Antony Kiiru, Samson Kamau, Paul Kabura, Cyrus Nthumbi, Isaac Njoroge, Johnstone Kilunja, Samuel Mwangi, Andrew Kithiki, Carol Makau, and Francis Makau. Preliminary investigations suggest that the donkey meat was on transport to Shauri Moyo Market in Nairobi,” police said.
