World Cup: Bellingham heroics propel England past Norway into semis

Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham scored twice to help England beat Norway 2-1 on Sunday and reach the 2026 World Cup semi-finals.
The Three Lions will now face either Argentina or Switzerland in the last four.
It was another day for Bellingham to shine and be counted as a star on the English side. The goals against Norway came just five days after his two-goal heroics against Mexico.
The Real Madrid forward equalised for England after Andreas Schjelderup’s opener put Norway ahead before he pounced from close range to score the winner in extra time.
Bellingham has now increased his chances of being a top contender for the World Cup Golden Boot, as the 23-year-old has now scored six at the tournament, which puts him level with Harry Kane and only one behind Erling Haaland.
Were Norway robbed?
The Vikings were visibly aggrieved by the Belligham equaliser as it was allowed to stand; they claimed Orjan Nyland’s goal kick struck an overhead camera cable before falling to Elliot Anderson in the build-up, but FIFA insisted the matchball’s sensor did not register any contact.
Stats, records as Bellingham shines
According to Opta Stats, only Gary Lineker (six in 1986) has scored as many non-penalty goals in a single World Cup tournament for the Three Lions as Belligham in 2026 (six).
In fact, only Kane (25) and David Beckham (14) have more goal involvements for England at major tournaments than Bellingham (12 – nine goals, three assists).
He is the first player to score two or more goals in successive World Cup knockout-stage games since Diego Maradona (1986) and the youngest to do so at 23 years and 12 days since Pele (17y 249d) in 1958.
England are the first team to keep Haaland off the scoresheet in a competitive international since Austria in October 2024 (636 days ago).
